KUALA LUMPUR: PAS has run of issues that it has resorted to claiming the existence of a move in Umno to topple party president Najib Tun Razak, said Umno permanent chairman Badruddin Amiruldin.He said that claim made by PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali at a news conference here today, showed that PAS was deliberately creating an issue to make Umno appear divided when it was actuallly solidly behind Najib.
“How can a party president (Najib) be a liability to the party whose performance has been improving?” he said to Bernama today.
He was commenting on Mustapa’s statement that Umno had created the issue of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to be replacing Anwar Ibrahim as Opposition Leader to cover up Umno’s own internal issues and the serious move within Umno to bring down Najib before the 13th general election.
Badruddin said until now, Umno was still the strongest party where each party member was loyal to the president, deputy president and vice-presidents.
“There are no factions in Umno, and I ask that he (Mustafa) watch his mouth and not lie during this holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
Badruddin said Najib “is a good listener and we see now that not only the party members are supporting him, but the people as well”.
Umno vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal regards PAS’ claim about Najib and Umno as the opposition’s dirty politics aimed at weakening and dividing Umno.
“The claim is not true. The prime minister is not a liability. This has been proven by BN’s victory in several by-elections,” he told Bernama.
Mohd Shafie said Umno was now on the right track in winning back public support for the party.
“I believe the prime minister is well accepted by all quarters, including the general public,” he said.

Sekurang-kurangnya 169 pemegang status Pemastautin Tetap (PR) yang dikesan telah didaftarkan sebagai pengundi di Malaysia, kata Ketua Penerangan Selangor, Shuhaimi Shafiei.
Shuhaimi menjangkakan, ‘kaedah Jus Soli’ itu akan terus meningkat kepada jumlah yang lebih besar, terutama di beberapa kawasan BN yang mengalami kekalahan pada Pilihan Raya Umum 2008.
Sehubungan itu, beliau mencabar Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak supaya menjelaskan isu itu kepada seluruh rakyat Malaysia dan membawa mengadap ke bawah duli Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di Pertuan Agong.
“Kami mendesak Perdana Menteri Najib Razak menjelaskan isu pemberian kerakyatan seterusnya pendaftaran warga asing ini sebagai pemilih sah SPR kepada seluruh rakyat Malaysia, para Sultan dan DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda yang diPertuan Agong dengan kadar segera,” kata Shuhaimi dalam kenyataannya hari ini.
Menyifatkannya sebagai pengkhianatan kepada negara, beliau juga menganggap ia taktik kotor Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Razak yang juga pengerusi BN di Selangor- untuk merampas negeri itu, sehingga sanggup menggadai tanah air kepada warga asing.
“Adakah dengan pemberian kad pengenalan biru kepada warga asing untuk mengundi ini merupakan langkah terakhir UMNO Selangor merampas Selangor setelah usaha gigih sebelum ini menemui jalan buntu?,” soal beliau.
Bagi mengukuhkan bukti itu, Shuhaimi turut melampirkan senarai nombor kad pengenalan pengundi di Parlimen Hulu Langat yang berjaya dikesan mempunyai status PR.
Sementara itu, dalam perkembangan yang sama, Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) dikesan mengubah status Mismah, selepas sistem talian pengesahan Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) berbuat demikian.
Status rekod terbaru menunjukkan permohonnya untuk mendaftar sebagai pengundi dalam laman SPR itu tertera ‘Dalam proses pengesahan daftar pemilih’.
Semalam Malaysiakini melaporkan Mismah dikategorikan sebagai PR dalam sistem Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara dan memegang My PR kad bernombor 640704715238, namun turut mempunyai rekod dalam draf daftar pemilih tambahan SPR.
Namun kira-kira empat jam selepas laporan itu, status Mismah telah ditukar kepada warganegara dalam sistem pengesahan talian JPN.

KUALA LUMPUR – Mahkamah Tinggi pada Isnin mengarahkan Menteri Penerangan Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim memfailkan keterangan saksi dalam kes saman beliau terhadap penulis blog berhubung satu artikel yang didakwa memfitnah beliau.
Hakim Mahkamah Tinggi Datin Zabariah Mohd Yusof turut mengarahkan penulis blog itu, Amizudin Ahmad, berbuat perkara serupa selepas mengadakan pertemuan dengan peguam Azad Bashir yang mewakili Rais, dan peguam Gan Chee Wei mewakili Amizudin.
Ketika ditemui pemberita, Azad, berkata mahkamah mengarahkan kedua-dua pihak memfailkan keterangan itu sebelum 1 Julai.
Mahkamah sebelum ini menetapkan tiga hari bermula 4 Julai untuk mendengar kes itu.
Pada 31 Jan, Rais memfailkan saman fitnah terhadap Amizudin, yang juga anggota jawatankuasa sayap pemuda Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), berhubung artikel yang disiarkan dalam blog Amizudin, bersama gambar Rais, pada atau sekitar 28 Dis tahun lepas.
Beliau menuntut ganti rugi am, ganti rugi khas, ganti rugi teruk selain perintah terhadap defendan supaya mengeluarkan dari blognya artikel itu dan melarangnya daripada terus menyiarkannya.
Pada 2 Feb lepas, Rais memperoleh injunksi daripada Mahkamah Tinggi yang memerintahkan Amizudin mengeluarkan artikel yang didakwa memfitnah beliau daripada blog, sharpshooterblogger.blogspot.com.
Amizudin pada 21 Mac lalu bersetuju berhenti menyiarkan artikel itu.
Dalam kenyataan tuntutannya, Rais, 69, berkata maksud artikel dalam bahasa Melayu itu berniat jahat dan memfitnah beliau.
Menteri itu berkata tulisan itu membawa makna beliau bersalah melakukan jenayah serius merogol dan mampu membunuh pembantu rumah beliau dari Indonesia.
Rais juga berkata tulisan fitnah itu membawa maksud beliau seorang manusia dan/atau pemimpin yang tidak bermoral.
Katanya ekoran daripada penerbitan artikel itu, reputasi beliau sebagai seorang individu dan/atau sebagai seorang profesional di peringkat nasional dan antarabangsa telah tercemar teruk, dan membuat beliau malu dan tertekan.
Amizudin dalam pernyataan pembelaannya mempertahankan tindakannya dengan berkata artikel itu menyatakan apa yang benar berlaku. – BERNAMA

Kerajaan Selangor berpendapat bahawa kenyataan yang mengatakan akan berlaku krisis air adalah tidak tepat dan mengelirukan.
Exco Jawatankuasa Tetap Pelancongan, Hal Ehwal Pengguna dan Alam Sekitar, Elizabeth Wong berkata jika isu tersebut tidak diselesaikan terlebih dahulu, pembinaan loji rawatan air di Hulu Langat tidak dapat dilaksanakan.
“Kerajaan Selangor berpendapat bahawa kenyataan yang mengatakan akan berlaku krisis air adalah tidak tepat dan mengelirukan.
“Selangor percaya kenyataan ini terlalu bergantung kepada Kajian Sumber Air Nasional (NWRS) yang dilakukan Unit Perancang Ekonomi (EPU) pada 2000.
” Perlu diingat bahawa anggaran NWRS per kapita keperluan air tidak didasarkan pada ‘Design Guidelines for Water Supply Systems’ yang dihasilkan Persatuan Air Malaysia seperti kita fahami,” katanya dalam sidang media selepas mesyuarat Exco di Bangunan SUK hari ini.
Sebaliknya, mereka menggunakan “Pendekatan Keperluan Air” yang didasarkan pada unjuran pertumbuhan Keluaran Dalam Negara Kasar yang berubah mengikut pasaran ekonomi global yang tidak stabil sejak krisis ekonomi dunia yang turut menjejaskan ekonomi Malaysia.
Dua bulan lalu, Kerajaan Negeri telah bertemu dengan Menteri Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui.
Wong berkata, formula untuk menyelesaikan penstrukturan semula industri air adalah jelas dan kita berharap Menteri tidak melengahkan masa atau menunda isu ini.
Menurut beliau, walaupun terdapat beberapa pihak yang mengatakan bekalan air tidak mencukupi namun hakikatnya unjuran permintaan menunjukkan terdapat lebihan bekalan air untuk memenuhi keperluan pelanggan di Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur.
Sementara itu, Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim berkata kerajaan negeri bersetuju untuk memberi bonus hari raya sebanyak RM500 seorang kepada semua kakitangan Gred 54 ke bawah.
Dalam perkembangan lain, kerajaan negeri akan menyediakan geran membiayai usaha rakyat untuk membuat bantahan ke atas Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) ekoran kepincangan daftar pengundi.
“Kerajaan Negeri pandang serius aduan-aduan mengenai kepincangan daftar undi dan daftar undi baru. Aduan dan tuduhan rakyat negara jiran permaustautin tetap dan senarai sebagai pengundi merungsingkan. Rakyat berhad tuntut daftar bersih untuk buka jalan satu pilihan raya bersih dan adil,” katanya.

Chief Minister Musa Aman's extensive reach in Sabah makes him an almost invincible opponent to allies and enemies alike.
It is a concentration of power, without oversight and unprecedented, in a state government. It was unheard of prior to the Umno-led Barisan Nasional’ s takeover of the state administration.
It also explains Musa’s controlling reach in the extraction and export of logs from Sabah’s forests. Timber was once Sabah’s goldmine.
According to timber industry insiders, there are no other “real” players anymore. There’s only Musa and his proxies.
According to these insiders, in the past there were timber producers like North Borneo Timber, Wallace Bay and Teck Heng Loong.
In 1966 Yayasan Sabah came along and became one of the players. But eventually under Musa’s guidance, Yayasan Sabah forced most of the major producers to fold up.
On the buyers’ end, among the big players were Sumitomo, Ataka, C. Itoh and Marubeni.
“But the good old days are long since over.
“The multiple companies and businessmen involved in the trade in the 70s and 80s are now all gone.
“There’s only one man controlling it all through proxies,” said an industry insider.
Lumberjack Musa
Speaking to FMT over dinner here recently, former chief minister Yong Teck Lee concurred with the views of the timber industry insiders.
“There is no other timber man in Sabah… only Musa.
“He knows the industry well… from top to bottom. From logging to export. He started off in the industry years ago and made his money from transporting logs to the ships.
“That was when Sabah’s economy depended on log exports. I still remember ‘Lumber Night’ when all the big shots in the timber industry from around the world turned up for a dinner at a hotel.
“It was hosted by the timber industry here. But now, no more,” said Yong, who himself knows the logging and timber industry very well.
He is also aware of the current state of the timber industry in Sabah and the dearth of logs. Over the past eight months, dozens of sawmills have been forced to shut down and hundreds of workers laid off.
But the exports of round logs continue and the extraction of the hard and soft wood found in Sabah’s jungle goes on unabated keeping Musa and Umno happy.
Not Sabah logs
It is widely known here that the best timber is feverishly being extracted from forest reserves including the famed Danum Valley and Maliau Basin where Sabah’s last remaining virgin forests stands.
Demand for logs from Sabah is booming and logging has seen an up-tick following the tsunami in Japan in March as well as China and South Korea.
The demand has been such that industry sources say the state authorities cannot justify the amount exported out of Sabah.
Export manifests often state that shipments are from Papua New Guinea. But in reality these logs are coming from Kalimantan in neighbouring Indonesia, said a timber industry source.
The Sabah government has said it expects annual revenue from timber production to be less than RM100 million a year over the next 20 years.
Extraction from natural forests is said to be about 200,000 cubic metres annually but timber industry sources are sceptical about these figures.
According to these insiders, the actual figures are double and the amount of earnings are undeclared.
In October last year, Musa told participants of an international business conference that over three decades of logging had “inevitably resulted in the reduction of productive capacity of forests”.
He admitted that “such dependence coupled with past practices that were not environment-friendly, illegal logging and forest fires, resulted in the degradation of our forests”.
Outflow of cash
While lauding his honesty and admission of the government’s poor management of its resources, industry insiders say illegal logging continues to be rampant in the state.
“It can be seen in many areas around the state.
“You can see it being openly done in mangrove areas and even in such places like Danum Valley, along the Kinabatangan (river) and even around Maliau Basin.
“There are even saw mills operating inside these protected areas. Don’t tell me the government does not know,” another timber source said.
He added that the flow of logs out from the state and their value did not correspond with the revenue that should be gained by the state.
“You’re talking about billions (of ringgit) here. The money certainly isn’t going into the state coffers or it would be reflected in the state budgets.
“Somewhere the money disappears. Maybe this is what people are talking about when they say hard cash is flowing out of Sabah to Kuala Lumpur every month,” he said.
Money laundering
Musa has already been officially linked to a money-laundering operation.
In fact, the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Anti Corruption (ICAC) is still investigating this money-laundering trail linked to him.
The investigation was exposed after a Sabah businessman was stopped at the Hong Kong International Airport with a bag of RM16 million in cash in late 2008.
The ICAC had been closely monitoring the account belonging to the businessman, who is alleged to be a proxy of Musa. Musa has, however, denied this.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) also launched its own investigation on the matter and hauled in several close associates of Musa, including a lawyer on the request of the ICAC.
Though little has been disclosed, it is learnt that the ICAC investigation is continuing.
The recent alleged purchases of jewellery worth millions of ringgit by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, have raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about the source of the money.
Some have pointed the finger at Sabah where Musa has been walking a tightrope to keep his position as chief minister in the face of a challenge from his arch-rival Shafie Apdal.
Shafie is a big gun in Najib’s circle. He is an Umno vice-president and Rural and Regional Development Minister.
Musa is said to be protected by Rosmah while Najib reportedly favours Shafie.
“Talk is that Musa knows how to handle the prime minister through his wife,” said Yong.
Yong was commenting on speculation over how Musa had managed to retain his chief minister’s post despite falling out of favour with Najib and others within the ruling coalition.
Even an open revolt and criticism of his leadership style by politicians within the ruling coalition have failed to dislodge him.
Political tussle
Shafie is said to have faced down Musa on several occasions when the chief minister had demanded that all federal funding for Sabah be placed at his disposal.
Shafie has taken his defiance a step further and opened an office in the state capital this year to oversee federal allocations to the state.
According to businessmen, the move came after allegations of cronyism were levelled at the state administration in the awarding of contracts for the Rural and Regional Development Ministry projects.
“Something is keeping him (Musa) there but at the same time he is definitely paying for it,” observers have commented.
Former Sabah chief minister Harris Salleh hinted recently at corrupt practices being rampant in the state when he said it was widely known that vast sums of cash were being withdrawn from Sabah banks every month and taken to Kuala Lumpur.
According to an accountant, attempts to hide money in overseas accounts without declaring where it is coming from is increasingly difficult and those who are smart use “hot money” to buy vast swaths of property locally which effectively launders the money.
“You take hot money and buy property… cash. It’s the easiest way to launder money,” he said.
One more term
According to an Umno observer in Kuala Lumpur, all Musa wants is one more term as chief minister.
“The prime minister has given him that assurance… ” said the observer.
That being the case, one term will be just enough time for anyone who is in power to mop up the remaining wealth of the state.
It also explains the sudden gush of support from various BN commentators on the Internet.
They have already begun campaigning and promoting Musa as the only person who can bring development to the state.
Musa certainly has the money and more of it is still buried in Sabah’s remaining forest.
These stand to keep Umno headquarters happy and Shafie, the Semporna MP, at bay.

Kurang empat jam selepas Malaysiakini melaporkan seorang penduduk tetap (PR) yang memegang kad MyPR merah telah didaftarkan sebagai pengundi baru, dia nampaknya telahpun menjadi warganegara.
NONEDia kini mempunyai MyKad biru, berdasarkan semakan pada sistem dalam talian yang sama Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) di mana butiran identifikasi dirinya direkodkan.
Semakan pada sistem pengesahan dalam talian JPN sebanyak dua kali - pada jam 5.48 petang semalam dan 11.30 pagi ini - menunjukkan nama Mismah adalah berstatus PR yang telah mengambil kad MyPRnya (No 640704715238), kad pengenalan bagi PR.
Apabila nombor yang sama dimasukkan ke dalam sistem pengesahan dalam talian SPR, Mismah yang sama adalah pengundi berdaftar yang baru.
Bagaimanapun, satu lagi semakan dengan sistem JPN pada jam 3 petang ini menunjukkan hasil yang mengejutkan - Mismah telah menjadi warganegara dengan Mykad biru.
Statusnya pada sistem pengesahan dalam talian SPR kekal sama pada jam 3 petang - pengundi yang baru berdaftar dalam senarai daftar tambahan pemilih yang dipamerkan oleh semakan umum.
Anggota parlimen Kubang Kerian Salahudin Ayub (kanan) berkata mereka akan menghantar surat dalam masa terdekat kerana mendakwa perkara "khianat" itu "mengancam keselamatan dan kedaulatan negara".
Salahuddin yang juga naib presiden PAS mendedahkan semakan mereka mendapati sehingga kini sejumlah 1,597 kes berhubung perkara itu dikesan di seluruh negara.
"Sekarang tiada dolak dalih lagi. Najib wajib panggil sidang tergempar (di parlimen)," katanya Nurul Izzah (kiri) lagi.
